Mikaila Kukurudza

Mikaila had a late start to her dance career, taking her first dance class at age 15. She quickly became fascinated with the art form after joining Huron Height Secondary School's Arts Huron Dance Program and iDance's performance team in 2009. After 3 years at iDance training and assistant and lead teaching, Mikaila has gone on to her second year developing and running the dance program for York Region District School Board's Summer Institute. The program is geared to dancers of all levels. As the camp is a performance plus school community, most campers do not get the opportunity to take dance classes outside of camp. Mikaila has had the challenge of creating routines that can accommodate every dancer—from absolute beginners and students with exceptionalities, to competitive dancers. Mikaila graduated from Arts Huron (and iDance) in 2012, and continued her dance education in Toronto. Mikaila completed City Dance Corps' Pre-professional Training Company program this past year. Through the program, Mikaila has had the opportunity to train with over 30 Toronto-based choreographers this past year and is more inspired than ever to share her love of dance. Within the past year, Mikaila has provided YRDSB schools with multiple dance workshops in a variety of styles for ages 5-14. Mikaila is currently in her third  year at Ryerson's School of Journalism. After graduating in 2016, she plans to specialize in photojournalism and pursue her passion of dance photography and of course, continue her love of teaching dance.
