Rachel Gerrard
Rachel has loved ballet since she was a toddler, doing pirouettes in her parents' living room. She began dancing with Sandy Anderton at the age of four, and spent ten years with Nancy Saliba at the Saliba School of Dance. Rachel has numerous years of formal ballet training in the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus, and has completed her performance exams well into the majors. Throughout many years of ballet training and examinations, Rachel discovered her love for teaching.
At the age of 14, Rachel enrolled in the Arts York Dance Program at Unionville High School where she spent five years focusing on Ballet and Modern techniques, at the same time also gaining dance experience in a wide range of other styles. During her high school years, she also performed with one of the dance companies at UHS, Dance Access, and had the opportunity to attend workshops at the National Ballet of Canada, and to take professional dance classes from some of the masters in New York City.
At the age of 17, Rachel spent a year competing with Elite Danceworx as a soloist, and also as part of a pas de deux in Ballet. Her group competed in Lyrical and Jazz and went on to win the Canadian National Dance Championships.
Over the years, throughout her time at York University and even now while she works full time at a human resources consulting firm, Rachel’s passion for the art of ballet has never wavered. She is excited to share her enthusiasm as well as her depth of knowledge in the field of ballet with each of her students.
